Ginseng is a species from the Araliaceae family and is native to Eastern Asia. It is often confused with Siberian Ginseng (Eleutherococcus Senticosus), which is not a true Ginseng.
It was traditionally used as an adaptogen (increases resistance to stress), aphrodisiac and rejuvenating herb, in Chinese and Korean medicine.
The herbs medicinal properties are found in chemical components in the roots called ginsenosides or panaxosides.
Ginseng is believed to increase the production of immune cells helping to fight illnesses and improve the immune system. It is also believed to help to relieve anxiety and stress and to control blood pressure. It may improve physical and mental performance and improve general health as it contains antioxidants and anti-carcinogens.
